Tie me, Spank me, Love me: Fave reads – June 17

By July 17, 2017February 15th, 2022Recommended Reads

For some reason, I read a lot of BDSM books in June. I normally say that I’m not into that kind of book, but actually, I’ve found some with great premises that I’ve found hard to put down. June was a very spanky month! Phew! So here are my favorite reads for back in June.

1 – Top June Read

Violent Cravings By Linnea May (Contemporary Romance: BDSM)

I will break every single rule to make her mine.
My life has always been defined by the extreme. I don’t balance – I’m an all or nothing kind of man.
Doesn’t sound healthy? It sure as hell isn’t.
Giving in to my cravings has almost ruined my life before and I’m not going to let it happen again.
That’s why I need rules. A strict regulation to keep my head in place.
Once a year. A different girl each time. No exclusivity – no addiction.
Laura is fueling my hunger like no girl ever has before.
But she’s not on the menu.
Taking her is against the rules.
Keeping her could ruin me.
…Or finally appease the monster within me.

I knew from the blurb that this was going to be an interesting story, with some alpha deliciousness to boot, but I didn’t know how complex the hero was going to turn out to be and how in-depth the story was going to be. The hero, Ryan, organizes sex with a random woman once a year to fulfill his specific needs and urges. He never has the same woman twice and the session lasts for only 24 hours. However, when he sees and interacts with Laura at an event, all his rules become null and void, even though he fights it as hard as he can. He propositions her, even though she’s not from the agency he normally uses.

I found the circumstances around this story intriguing. There is a mystery behind the hero that takes some time to be revealed, but as it does you begin to understand his actions and motivations. I loved watching the hero deal with his demons and struggle with the feelings growing for this woman he only had for 24hours. I also loved everything that unfolded after and how she helped him to overcome the main source of his struggle. I can’t say much more without spoiling it. All I can say is…. read it!

Torment Me By Annabel Joseph (Contemporary Romance: BDSM)

Chere isn’t happy with her life as a high-class escort, but she can’t seem to find the motivation to change. Then she takes on a mysterious new client who won’t share his name, or even allow her to see what he looks like. Their first session is a headlong tumble into tantalizing sensation and fearsome control that leaves Chere picking up emotional pieces she didn’t know she had.
“W” is roughly seductive, and dominant to the core. His demands shock her as much as they turn her on, and soon the line between bad choices and emotional fulfillment becomes alarmingly blurred…

I thought I hated this when I was reading it. I hated the pull and power W had over Chere, I hated the fact he thought rape was ‘fun’ for her, I hated the way she doted on his poems. I just fucking hated it. And then I got to the end, and I was PISSED there wasn’t anymore! Aaaghh! I mean, obviously, I loved it. It was a compelling read and although I disliked that Chere kept going back for more, it was understandable that she would, with the circumstances that she was in. Although she came across as tough, she was actually a sweet heroine who had to deal with the shitty hand that life gave her. And that juxtaposition kinda surprised me and pulled me in.

When I thought about it more, I loved their whole dynamic and the mysterious nature of W. The mystery around him was very compelling and I was always trying to figure him out. I also found his love of pain to get off weirdly fascinating. It’s a serial so you do have the read the next book (or next two books) to get the full story. I’m saving it for when I’m not in first-draft stage or trying to meet a deadline, cause I know I’m gonna blow through it. Highly recommended if you like dark, non-con BDSM.

Vicious By L.J. Shen (Contemporary Romance)

Emilia
They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.
Vicious
She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me.

Again, I didn’t think I would like this book as much as I did. The hero seemed like some fucked up kid that was just mean and sadistic. He hated Emelia and did things to her that was just mean and crazy, if he really loved her. However, the more I read, the more Shen chipped at my resolve and slowly revealed the various complexities behind his motivations and his character. He slowly realized things about himself and his feelings and came to terms with them, and yet did not fundamentally change who he was, which I think is more realistic. A great story, highly recommended.

Silver Bastard By Joanna Wilde (Contemporary Romance: MC)

Fourteen months. For fourteen months, Puck Redhouse sat in a cell and kept his mouth shut, protecting the Silver Bastards MC from their enemies. Then he was free and it was time for his reward–full membership in the club, along with a party to celebrate. That’s when he saw Becca Jones for the first time and set everything in motion. Before the night ended he’d violated his parole and stolen her away from everything she knew.
Five years. It was five years ago that Puck destroyed Becca and saved her all in one night. She’s been terrified of him ever since, but she’s even more terrified of the monsters he still protects her from… But Becca refuses to let fear control her. She’s living her life and moving forward, until she gets a phone call from the past she can’t ignore. She has to go back, and there’s only one man she can trust to go with her–the ex-con biker who rescued her once before.
Puck will help her again, but this time it’ll be on his terms. No more lies, no more tears, and no more holding back what he really wants…

Okay, so I read one MC book that traumatized me and kinda put me off MC books, for the most part. I tend to only go for them now if I get a recommendation from someone I trust. But anyway, this story was pretty interesting and had a brilliant, possessive hero. The tension between them was great and the push and pull between them was lovely to read.

I liked the whole set up of Puck ‘saving’ her from her young life and the sexual tension between them when he returns back to town. I like that she was both vulnerable in many ways but also a biker chick who grew up around bikers and knows how to handle herself. I also loved how conflicted Puck was about claiming her and the jealousy and possessiveness about other men around her. It was delish! Worth a read, people.

5.

Loaned by Annabel Joseph (Contemporary Romance: BDSM)

Bettina’s Master gets off on loaning her to strangers. Afterward, she’s supposed to report back to him with all the raunchy details. It’s all kinky fun and games, until one of those strangers decides he doesn’t want to give her back…

I tried to keep this month’s books to a short list… honestly, I TRIED. But look at the blurb of this book?! So intriguing, right? And it’s not even really a full book so it’s not taking up a full space… *averts eyes* (I know this is the second entry for Annabel Joseph, but I’m beginning to realize I’m a fan of hers. This was actually the first one I read and then I read Torment Me a few weeks later.)

So I loved this. I loved the submissiveness of Betinna and I loved the anger of the hero about her master. It was sweet how he held onto to her, wanting to care for her and look after her but knowing she wasn’t really his. Worth the read, and recommended for anyone yet to try out a BDSM story.
